Nearly everyone will have come across a filter jug before, and they typically use a carbon filter along with gravity to drip the water through. A carbon filter removes approximatly 10-15% of all contaminants or total dissolved solids (TDS).

Reverse osmosis works by separating water molecules from other molecules by forcing the water through a semi-permeable membrane. RO filtration removes 99.99% of TDS. This includes bacteria, viruses, lead, pesticides & herbicides, sugars, flouride, chlorine, microplastics, PFAS (forever chemicals) and more.

The Ayus Wellness water purifier features 3 separate filters, Carbon, RO, and PAC - which a lot of systems won't do, and instead choose one or the other.

To put this into perspective,  our RO filtration has a pore size of around 0.0001 microns (partical size). A human hair is 40-300 microns, bacteria is 0.3-60 microns. A typical pitcher filter will have a rating of 200 microns, meaning it won't be filtering as much as you may think. Other systems may also boast about a better (lower) micron rating, say around 0.1, however this will still not filter things such as some viruses (0.005-0.3 microns) and flouride (0.00026 microns).

Why does micron size matter? The smaller the micron size, the more contaminants are removed during the filtration process. Reverse osmosis will remove more contanimants than nanfiltration, ultrafiltration, microfiltration, and particle filtration. 

Whatever filtration system you are using, it will be necessary to consider the micron rating of each filter.

Reverse Osmosis filtration does take away a lot of the beneficial minerals, so our system has been designed with remineralisation, ensuring all of the beneficial minerals are retained.

The chemical formula for water is H₂O (comprising two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom). Hydrogen water, however, is simply water with an increased amount of hydrogen (H) dissolved in it. This concept appears to have originated several decades ago in Japan, where it is known as shin'nooru solution. Japan is one of the "oldest" (average aged) populations in the world. They recognise the benefits to Hydrogen infused water provides, and have it installed in hospitals across the country. Our system uses the same technology to bring the benefits of Hydrogen infused water to you at home.

The core idea is that additional hydrogen boosts antioxidant activity. Hydrogen seems to target the same free radicals that have been correlated with inflammation, chronic disease, DNA damage, and fatigue. It neutralises the damaging free radicals while avoiding the free radicals that are helpful to our body’s processes.

Boosts Energy and Exercise Performance

One study observed that participants who consumed hydrogen water 10 to 30 minutes before exercise showed improved endurance and reduced fatigue, as measured by maximal oxygen consumption and activity intensity scales. Another study found that sleep-deprived individuals experienced increased alertness and concentration from drinking hydrogen water, an effect comparable to caffeine.

Reduces Body Fat

In a small study, ten overweight women who consumed hydrogen-generating mineral tablets (similar to hydrogen water) over four weeks experienced reduced body fat percentage and insulin resistance. However, changes in body mass and measurements were not significant compared to the control group.

Lowers Inflammation

Research indicates that adults over 30 who drank 1.5 litres of hydrogen water daily for four weeks had higher antioxidant capacity and reduced inflammation. A study on metabolic syndrome risk factors indicated that drinking hydrogen water over ten weeks lowered total and LDL (“bad”) cholesterol while increasing HDL (“good”) cholesterol levels.

In one study, participants who drank 300 millilitres of hydrogen water twice a day for four weeks reported better mood and reduced anxiety, suggesting hydrogen water could support mental well-being.

In today's world, drinking purified water is increasingly important due to widespread pollutants that can compromise water quality. Among the most concerning are microplastics and PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), both of which have been found in significant levels in water supplies globally. Microplastics, tiny plastic fragments from larger items like bottles or industrial waste, have made their way into the water supply through pollution and degradation of plastic materials. PFAS chemicals, often referred to as "forever chemicals," are synthetic compounds used in various products such as non-stick cookware, firefighting foams, and stain-resistant fabrics. These substances are extremely persistent in the environment and are difficult to remove from water due to their chemical stability. PFAS exposure has been linked to several health issues, including hormonal disruptions, immune system effects, and increased risk of certain cancers. For these reasons, water purification systems, especially those using reverse osmosis (RO), have become essential, as they can effectively reduce microplastics, PFAS, and other contaminants like heavy metals and pesticides.

Beyond these modern pollutants, purified water also helps mitigate the effects of common contaminants like chlorine, lead, and other metals that might leach from outdated plumbing. Drinking purified water ensures a cleaner, healthier source of hydration and lowers the risk of exposure to these contaminants in the long term.

A lot of other systems may have good to great levels of purification, however they won't always feature UV steralisation within the storage tank, where bacteria can form or build.
